The Miami Winter Music Conference is 5 day long electronic music conference that is held every year in March. The conference is held for the professionals in the electronic music industry. The majority of the attendees are electronic music artists, DJs, promoters, producers and people from record labels. Over 100,000 people attend the Miami Winter Music Conference each year. The main goal of the conference is to help advance the electronic music industry by sharing new ideas and techniques.
The Miami Winter Music Conference was established in 1985 by Louis Possenti and Bill Kelly, who were DJs at the time of the creation. The first Miami Winter Music Conference had only 80 members from the electronic music community in attendance, and only took place in one hotel in downtown Miami. This number is now over 60,000 people each year. A large percentage of the attendees are from oversees and are looking to get an audience for their music. Over 70 different countries were represented at the conference last year.
While the Miami Winter Music Conference started in one small location, it now spreads across South Beach and downtown Miami. There are now more than 400 events, seminars, workshops and parties that occur over the five days in Miami. These 400+ events all occur in nearly 100 different locations throughout the city of Miami. The main events each year are the International Dance Music Awards, the VJ challenge, DJ Spin Off and the Winter Music Conference Record Collectors Show.
In addition of these large scale events, there are also various workshops, seminars and exhibits that occur throughout the five days of the conference. The exhibits show off all of the newest technology the electronic music industry has to offer. The seminars allow anyone to learn from the greats in the industry and their thoughts on various topics. Each seminar has well known artists and DJs that speak and then answer questions from the audience. It is a great way to a personal connection with some the best in the electronic music industry.
The International Dance Music Awards show is by far the main draw to the Miami Winter Music Conference. In addition to all of the awards given out, there are also special performance by various artists each year. Some of the biggest acts that performed at the last award show include Chris Willis, Wynter Gordon, Dev and the Cataracs and Zakes. After the award show, there is also a huge after party that is attended by most of the nominees and performers.
The DJ spin off is rapidly becoming one of the biggest events each year. There are competitions in scratching and beat matching each year. It is a great way to see the up and coming DJs display all of their talents. There is no other place where that many great DJs perform at the same time.
If all of these events were not enough to attend the Miami Winter Music Conference, there are also several parties that occur each day in various clubs throughout Miami.
