Resistance 3 Preview

The Chimera are back! Insomniac Games' action-FPS franchise returns to the PS3 on September 6, 2011. Running on the Insomniac Engine v.3.0, Resistance 3 picks up the story from Resistance 2 and promises a holiday season filled with single player and multi-player run-and-gun action.

The Story So Far

Resistance 3 is set in the USA in August of 1957, four years after the end of Resistance 2. Resistance 2 main character Joseph Capelli features in the upcoming title, but has largely given up the fight against the Chimeran threat. The alien invasion has been successful in devastating the United States, and the remaining survivors are on the run. Joining them is Joseph Capelli, along with his wife and child. Dr. Fyodor Malikov has an idea which, if implemented, will deal a death blow to the Chimeran invasion force. To do this, he needs Capelli's help. Capelli agrees and must travel to New York City to implement the plan. The game will focus on Capelli's harrowing journey across the battered remains of the USA.

What to Expect

Resistance: Fall of Man redefined sci-fi first-person shooters on the PS3 when it released at that console's launch. Resistance 2 pushed the hardware to even greater graphical heights. Resistance 3 looks poised to stretch the Cell processor to its limit and deliver an unprecedented action experience on PS3 this autumn. Resistance 3 will see the introduction of environmental kills. The title will feature the return of fan favorite weapons such as the Auger, Bullseye, and Rossmore. New weapons include a new sniper rifle called the Dead-Eye, and a biological weapon called the Mutator. The weapons have been crafted to reflect an aesthetic of desperation. As the story is set in an America ravaged by alien invasion, some weapons are makeshift and all look as if they have been scavenged. Resistance 3 will also feature stereoscopic 3-D and Playstation Move support.

Multiplayer

Resistance 3 will also feature 16 player online multi-player modes which will include traditional deathmatches alongside other modes. An extremely popular feature is sure to be the inclusion of a full co-op mode, which will allow players to fight the Chimera side by side, either online or locally. All will be revealed when Resistance 3 launches this September.
