V festival is the UK's 3rd largest music festival, set across 2 sites- Hylands park, Chelmsford (V festival south) and Weston park, Staffordshire (V festival north). The 2010 V festival features headline acts kings of leon and kasabian as well as a plethora of other great singers and bands from differnt genres like.
Below are some tips picked up from a number of V festivals. Feel free to share your own or ask any questions in the comments.
- Tickets to V festival sell out within hours (actually you're already too late for official 2010 V festival tickets) so make a note of the date, book the morning off work and be prepared to both ring and apply on line at the official V ticket outlets.
- Don't fall victim of the number of V festival ticket scams. Only by tickets from approved ticketing agents, a list of which can be found on the official V website, or from reputable reselling websites who guarentee your ticket purchase like seatwave, viagogo and getmein (owned by ticketmaster). Don't by V tickets on eBay or from ticket touts at the gate.
- Unlike other festivals I've been too (glasto and Reading are the worst) you don't neccesarily have to arrive early on the Friday to get a good camping spot. In fact, don't camp anywhere near the arena!
- If you try to get to either site in friday afternoon rush hour though expect to spend at least 3 hours in traffic jams.
- Get out enough cash for the whole weekend before you set off. Cash machines near the festival site will probably be empty. The queues for the ATM at Chelmsford didn't actually look that bad last year but I've spent about 2 hours queuing for cash on a previous year- not fun!
- Take a trolley or wheelbarrow to lug your stuff from the car to the campsite (1-2 miles). Last year they were renting these near the campsite entrance at Chelmsford.
- Check your ticket and make sure you park in the best car park for the campsite you're assigned to (red or blue).
- No glass in the campsite but the last 2 years they've had plastic bottles for free at the campsite entrance so you can decant your glass bottles into plastic there.
- Don't camp anywere near portaloo's!
- Take some big water bottles empty and fill them up when you arrive.
- In the arena get your beer tokens as soon as you arrive and get enough for the whole weekend.
- If you really want to get to the front start moving forward a couple of acts before the band you want to get front row for. Making forward progress is pretty hard during a set but as everyone leaves after 1 band has finished you can make your move forward.
- Leave lots of time to get between stages. Especially at chelmsford which is more cramped you get traffic jams of people moving between zones.
- Every year V seem to put an act in the tent which should blatantly be on the main stage (girls aloud a couple of years ago, lady gaga in 2009). Look out for this and either a) avoid it or b) get there early. Watching a band from outside a tent is rubbish!
- If you stay until Monday morning get up really early and get off the csmpsie as soon as you can. Leaving before 9 you shouldn't get stuck in the car park. After 9 you almost certainly will.
If you're going to V festival this year have an awesome time and if you're at Chelmsford I might see you in the beer token queue!
