Vampire Diaries Season 2 Highlights

The Vampire Diaries has ridden in on the recent swell of vampire popularity that began with the Twilight series. The CW original show has thrilled young audiences with its romantic drama, supernatural action and attractive cast.
Season 2 of The Vampire Diaries debuted on September 9, 2010 with a sizzling season opener that begins right where season one left off. Beautiful Elena comes home to discover Jeremy and Uncle John’s unfortunate demise, as Caroline lies in limbo in a hospital bed, needing Damon’s blood to pull her through. Not wanting to keep fans waiting for some action, the season opener finds Bonnie and the wicked Katherine have at it briefly before Stefan can separate them. The pace picks up even more when an enraged Damon breaks Jeremy’s neck to get revenge on Elena for loving Stefan. The large amount of characters that fans have come to care about are all checked in on in the opener, and the action is paced just right in the opener to make it a highlight of the entire season and set the tone for what’s to come.
An important highlight for fans who get deeply involved with the vampire and werewolf lore that the series relies upon comes along in episode 3, “Bad Moon Rising”. Elena Damon and Alaric venture to Isobel’s old office at Duke to delve into information about Katherine and the Lockwood family. They discover that vamps and werewolves once could wander freely in the world, but then a shaman cursed them to a more limited status, to prevent them from bringing disorder and wreckage to the world of men – this was the point when vamps and werewolves became bound to the sun and moon, respectively.
Fight scenes increase as the season progresses, including a bloody-good one in episode 8, “Rose”, when Elijah slays Trevor in an exchange gone wrong. In the same episode, Stefan and Damon battle Elijah with a stake, a fight that ends in one of the character’s demise.
The Vampire Diaries, despite being targeted towards a younger audience, does a fine job of pacing the action and emotional plot lines. As season 2 progresses, the stakes rise continuously and some of fan’s favorite characters find themselves close to doom. The Vampire Diaries Season 2 dvd is going to be a must-have for vampire fans everywhere.
